Agriculture Committee May Vote on Farm Labor Bill

OSWEGO, NY (WRVO) - State Senator Darrel Aubertine said the Senate's agriculture committee could vote on a farm labor bill in April. Among features of the bill, farmers would have to pay over time to laborers who work more than 60 hours in a week or 10 hours in a day.

Espada also said he discussed the Farmworkers Bill of Rights, which passed the Assembly last year and remains stalled in the Senate. It is vigorously opposed by Sen. Darrel Aubertine, a Democrat (and dairy farmer) from the Watertown area. NYC’s model for a better food system, if adopted, could be replicated in other cities across the nation, creating jobs and providing better food for more people.
