Albany's budget square dance may once again trample the hopes of New Yorkers wishing they could pick up a bottle of Riesling while shopping for cod and corn. Last week New York's State Senate and Assembly both passed their versions of the state budget for the upcoming fiscal year and neither includes Gov. David Paterson's proposal to allow wine sales in grocery stores... "If this were to go through, there are some wineries that have said they would have to triple their capacity to keep up with the demand. It'll create thousands of jobs in upstate New York, which desperately needs new economic stimulus."said Peter Gregg, spokesman for the New York Farm Bureau.

After today, America will no longer connect apples primarily with wholesome activities like picking bushels amid a spectrum of leaves in the fall, warming up with cider on a wintry day, or crunching a candied variety at Halloween. People will think of apples as the next super fruit, an accessible, value-priced, nutritional energy source on par with blueberries and pomegranates.

As I visited the GlobalFoundries facility in Saratoga County, New York, one of the questions I had was why the company chose upstate New York.
Location is obviously important, and GlobalFoundries GM Norm Armour explained that the new location is very close to Albany Nanotech and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, schools that perform lots of research on cutting-edge technology; and not too far away from IBM facilities in East Fishkill, New York and Burlington, Vermont.To view the rest of the story click on the following link:
