    SACKETS HARBOR — Cow 183 has lost her constant companion. Any visitors to Old McDonald's Farm in the last couple of years likely were introduced to 183, who at 17 is the oldest dairy cow in Jefferson County. She was not in the barn on Smithville Road where 104 young stock were killed late Thursday, but her shadow at Old McDonald's, Cow 2687, was there, and she was among the dead.

    SACKETS HARBOR — An assistant fire chief with the Sackets Harbor Fire Department was killed Sunday morning when a silo at North Harbor Dairy exploded after it caught fire.
    Garrett W. Loomis, 26, Sackets Harbor, was among members of the department responding Sunday to the County Route 75 farm because of a reported silo fire. The farm was the location of a barn fire Thursday night in which 104 cows were killed.

  • WEATHER: Frost, Freezing Temps Possible Tonight

    The National Weather Service is warning of frost and freezing temperatures tonight.

    The warning includes Wyoming, Livingston, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties in Western New York, and Ontario, Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties.

    The Weather Service says clear skies and light winds will cause temperatures to fall to near freezing over many interior locations overnight.
