Union and company officials currently have no plans to resume negotiations to end the strike that began Sunday at the Mott's Inc. plant in Wayne County.
Dr Pepper Snapple Group spokesman Chris Barnes said Sunday the company "will have operations back up and running soon" as it brings in temporary workers and other Dr Pepper Snapple Group employees to fill in for the striking workers. 5/21/10ALBANY — Another farmworker rights bill has been introduced in the N.Y. state Senate. Very similar in scope and wording to Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act (A1867-a/S2247-a), the new legislation is sponsored by Sen. George Onorato, D-12, Queens, the Senate labor chairman. The measure would guarantee farmworkers one day of rest every week, overtime pay, unemployment insurance and other provisions from which agricultural businesses are typically exempt.
In January, the Senate Labor Committee passed the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act. Then it went on to the Codes Committee. The Agricultural Committee reviewed and rejected the bill April 20...

WASHINGTON — In the next few years, dairy farmers are likely to see big changes in the safety net that protects them from crashing milk prices — including a first-ever comprehensive system to limit milk production, the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee said.
Rep. Collin C. Peterson, D-Minn., said he believes the past year's deep decline in milk prices will result in momentum for fundamental changes in dairy policy when Congress considers the five-year farm bill in 2012, as long as farm groups can find common ground and opposition from milk processors can be kept to a minimum.To view the rest of the story click on the following link:

5/23/10Some might say there’s nothing better than eating homegrown fruits and vegetables. The flip side of that is the ability to support local agriculture. Residents had the opportunity to show their support on Thursday during the first day of the Skaneateles Farmers Market at the community center on State Street.
“It gets a little busier every year,” said Vaughn Anna of Anna’s Rose Hill Flowers on Rose Hill Road.
