    Lebanon, Pa. – Six local high-school seniors have been selected to receive college scholarships from Cargill based on their high academic achievement and leadership in school and community activities.

    “We are pleased to recognize these exceptional students with this award and their high schools for their dedicated work as well,” said Gene Coy, manager of Cargill Animal Nutrition, in Lebanon County. “Cargill supports education programs in our communities because today’s young people are tomorrow’s community leaders. We believe corporate responsibility extends not only to our own operations but to our wider communities.”

    It was prime growing weather on Shelter Island, N.Y., as a breeze blew in from Dering Harbor, and Bennett Konesni was tending to his field of dreams: three neatly planted acres of bok choy, cauliflower, kale, Asian mustard greens, spinach, garlic, lettuce, onions, potatoes and leeks, with room for the peppers, eggplants and 15 varieties of tomatoes soon to be transplanted. Coming to a plot of leafy snap peas, inspiration struck.

  • Staffs Scramble as Budget Deal Opens New York State Parks

    All New York State parks will be open this weekend, but not all the usual services will be available everywhere.

    Gov. Paterson said negotiations that ended yesterday would provide $11 million for full operations this year, offset by money from the Environmental Protection Fund, which would be cut by about $74 million.
