President Barack Obama has named Edgar King, of Kings Ransom Farm, to chair Farm Service Agency’s New York State committee.King, a former town supervisor, is a Dairylea milk cooperative board member, a former deputy state commissioner of agriculture (1976-87), and a past vice president of Dairy Management Inc., which promotes dairy research and products.
He has also been on the National Dairy Board.He is a partner, with his sons, in Kings Ransom Farm, one of Saratoga County’s largest dairy farms with 900 cows. Emerald ash borer grows to 1/2" and creates troublTiny bug, big trouble. The feds are placing 9,800 traps across the state this month to catch a small but nasty beetle that could kick New York's ash.
The emerald ash borer first surfaced in the state last June - wiping out 39 ash trees in upstate Cattaraugus County. It hasn't been seen in the state since, but the feds aren't taking any chances.
They are putting purple box traps in ash trees - the pest's prey - in 42 counties, but none in the city, said U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Sharon Lucik.To view the rest of the story click on the following link:

Fabiana Lee’s spicy beef empanadas are traditionalThey carry home-grown radishes and red-cooked pork. They transport dozens of empanadas, juggling sheet pans on the G train. They pack boxes of butterscotch cupcakes, Sichuan-spiced beef jerky and grapefruit marmalade. They haul boiled peanuts, ice-grinding machines, sandwich presses and at least one toaster oven painted hot pink.
