Farm Credit East Gives $42,000 in College Scholarships

28 Students Receive $1,500 Each

ENFIELD, CONN. – Farm Credit East, the Northeast’s largest agricultural lending cooperative, recently awarded $42,000 in college scholarship to 28 student recipients. Each student received a $1,500 scholarship to apply toward his or her higher education.
According to CEO Bill Lipinski, “This year’s scholarship recipients aspire to make a difference in their communities and are well on their way to becoming agriculture’s future leaders. Our program supports students with diverse agricultural career aspirations and farm backgrounds from across our six-state territory and representing each of our 19 branch offices. Our staff sends its congratulations to these deserving students and best wishes for a successful educational experience.”
Here is this year’s Farm Credit East scholarship recipients list by the branch office that they represent:
From the Batavia, N.Y., office territory: Jack Jeffres, of Wyoming, N.Y., will attend SUNY Cobleskill to major in agricultural business. Jack aspires to become a farmer. Kerri McKenna, of Albion, N.Y., attends Cornell University where she majors in animal science and Ag education. Her goal is to become a veterinarian or Ag education teacher. Amanda Smith, of Medina, N.Y., is studying animal science at Cornell University, and aspires to a career in dairy communication.

From the Bedford, N.H., office territory: Brandon Haynes, of New Boston, N.H., attends the University of Rhode Island where he is studying aquaculture and fisheries technology. His goal is to become a fisheries biologist or gear technologist. Jeffrey Moore, of Loudon, N.H., attends Paul Smith’s College. Moore majors in industrial forest operations and is interested in a career in forestry consulting or on the family farm.

From the Bridgeton, N.J., office territory: Nicholas Loew, if Bridgeton, N.J., attends Penn State University where he is majoring in horticulture and working toward a career in nursery management.

Representing the Burrville, N.Y., office: Jonathan Schell, of Carthage, N.Y., is a member of the LEAD-NY program and an Ag team coordinator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County.

From the Claverack, N.Y., office territory: Cassandra Chittenden, of Schodack Landing, N.Y., attends Cornell University where she studies animal science and plans to work in the dairy industry after graduation.

From the Cobleskill, N.Y., office territory: Garrett Dudley, of Cobleskill, N.Y., attends SUNY Cobleskill where he majors in agricultural business. His career goal is to become an Ag economist and farm manager. Rachel Mikrut, of Delanson, N.Y., attends SUNY Morrisville where her major is equine business management. Mikrut hopes to become an equine rehabilitator one day.

Representing the Cortland, N.Y. office: Elizabeth Laculli-Leidenfrost, of Hector, N.Y., is planning a career in viticulture and enology after completing her education at Cortland Community College and Cornell. Her major is biological sciences. Aubrey Whittaker, of Whitney Point, N.Y., attends Cornell University where she majors in agricultural education. She plans a career in adult education.

From the Dayville, Conn., office territory: John Pearson, of Millbury, Mass., attends Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he majors in dairy science as he works toward a career in dairy management.

From the Enfield, Conn., office territory: James Hunt, of Orange, Mass., attends SUNY Cobleskill. He is studying dairy production and management and hopes to become a dairy herd manager.

From the Flemington, N.J., office territory: Timothy Von Thun, of Monmouth Junction, N.J., is working toward a farming career at the University of Maryland where he is studying agricultural systems management.

From the Geneva, N.Y., office territory: Mackenzie Green, of Rushville, N.Y., attends Finger Lakes Community College where she is majoring in viticulture and wine technology with an eye toward a career in agriculture. Heather Genrich, of Rochester, N.Y., attends Ohio State ATI. She is studying greenhouse and production and is working toward a career in agriculture Matthew Sweeney, of Appleton, N.Y., attends Cornell University. He is studying agricultural science education and plans a career as a classroom Ag educator.

From the Greenwich, N.Y., office territory: Emily Getty, of Hudson Falls, N.Y., is working toward her Master’s degree in international Ag and rural development at Cornell University. She plans a career as an Ag development consultant. Elizabeth Fullerton, of Argyle, N.Y., is an animal science major at Cornell University where she is working toward a career in dairy marketing.

Representing the Hornell, N.Y., office territory: Jessica May, of Wellsville, N.Y., major in animal science and Ag science at Cornell University. She plans a career as a dairy producer.

From the Middleboro, Mass. office territory: Ethan Dangelo, of Walpole, Mass., attends Stockbridge School of Agriculture where he is studying arboriculture on his way to a career as an arboriculture teacher.

Representing the Middletown, N.Y., office: Devon Mungin, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., attends SUNY Cortland and hopes to become an equine veterinarian. Stephanie Watko, of Brookfield, Conn., is working toward a career as a large animal vet and equine reproduction at the University of Connecticut where she majors in animal science.

Representing the Potsdam, N.Y. branch office: Sara King, of Waddington, N.Y., attends Cornell University where she is studying animal science in preparation for a career as a dairy nutritionist.

Representing the Riverhead, N.Y. office: Henry Kraszewski, of Water Mill, N.Y., attends Delaware Valley College where he majors in agribusiness and plans a career as a potato and vegetable farmer. Samantha Silvestri, of Melville, N.Y., studies marine biology at SUNY Stony Brook and is working toward a career as an aquaculture marine biologist.

From the Sangerfield, N.Y. office territory: Justin Fuess, of Madison, N.Y., attends Cornell University where he is studying animal science on his way to a career in veterinary medicine.
